The Advantages of Firearms Training are Endless
Enrolling in our firearms course offers myriad advantages for security professionals. You'll acquire the knowledge and proficiency required to handle firearms safely and effectively in diverse scenarios. Our emphasis on safety and correct technique ensures you're primed to handle firearms responsibly and ethically on the job.
Basic firearms training is provided to adult students, parents, and members of the public every Wednesday from 7:30 pm until 8:10 pm to educate them about gun safety. The cost of this training is only $10 per session and this is a drop-in program. There are no membership fees or dues.
During this course, participants will learn the fundamental safety rules, legal transportation, safe gun storage, basic shooting skills, advanced shooting skills, and tactical shooting skills for home defense. This is hands-on training using simulated firearms. Learning will be done using the SIRT Pistol or Rifle. During this training, we also provide basic first aid training (dealing with life-threatening bleeding).
Basic Pistol & Home Defense Course
Split Second Response provides a basic pistol and home defense course for the public to educate individuals about firearm safety and fundamentals, including the universal firearm safety rules, how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble your firearm. You will learn basic shooting skills such as your stance, pistol grip, sight alignment and sight picture, trigger pull, trigger reset, dealing with malfunctions, and so on. In addition, you’ll learn home defense skills, such as point and shot (target focus and front sight focus), double tap, the failure drill, combat reloads, tactical reloads, and much more.
Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Certification Course
Split Second Response provides CCW Permit certification (16-hours) and recertification (8-hours) courses for Contra Costa County residents only at this time. Our Concealed Carry Weapons Course satisfies the requirements mandated by California Senate Bill (SB) 2 concerning the training to secure a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit (CCW). This course will meet the requirements to earn your California permit and will enable legal concealed carry after petitioning with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s or your local Police department.
For residents of Contra Costa County, you must apply for your CCW permit online at the C.C.C. Sheriff's Department website, or through one of the following Police Departments based on where you live. For residents in Contra Costa County who do not live in one of the cities listed below, you apply through the Sheriff’s Department. Split Second Response is an approved CCW vendor for the Sheriff’s Department and the agencies highlighted in “red”:

Advanced Pistol Course (Level 1)
You must complete our Basic Pistol and Home Defense or CCW Course and be recommended by one of our instructors to be eligible to participate in our Advanced Pistol – Level 1 course. This course includes:
• Shoot and move (forwards and backward)
• Strong hand shooting
• Weak hand shooting
• Cover and concealment
• Box Drill (learning to engage multiple threats)
Firearms Rental (Pistols)
Firearm rental includes the use of up to three different firearms. All rental firearms must utilize ammunition provided by Split Second Response. Firearm rentals are required if a student does not own a firearm to use for the class. Students may choose not to shoot higher calibers, but the price remains the same.
